Tomahawk Desktop Standard

The standard version of the Tomahawk Desktop comes with a complete set of necessary software for home and office use. You can edit documents, create PDF files, create artworks, listen to music, play videos, create Ogg/FLAC files from CDs, access your phone using Bluetooth, access your digital camera, etc., so that most probably you don't have to buy extra software for your day to day activities.

Following is a non-exhaustive list of useful things that you can do with Tomahawk Desktop.

Office Suite

We have included two office suites named Openoffice and KOffice. The Openoffice is an excellent office suite where as KOffice is a semi desktop publishing type office suite. You can read or create MS Word, MS Excel or MS Powerpoint files.

PDF Creation

The Openoffice and KOffice and Scrubus documents can be saved as or exported to PDF files for web or laser/offset print quality.

Artwork Creation

The Gimp is a photo editing application similar to the Adobe Photoshop and the Inkscape is a vector graphic drawing application similar to the Adobe Illustrator. The Scribus is the recommended application in Tomahawk Desktop for professional grade page layout.

Internet/Email Access

The firefox, Mozilla and Konqueror are included for the secure web browsing. Tomahawk Desktop software architecture guarantees it brings you to the indeded website, thereby, avoiding any phishing (Pharming) traps. The integrated firewall protects you from remote hacking attacks and remote highjacking attempts.

Mozilla Thunderbird is a professional grade Email client. The KMail is also a fully-featured email client.

VoIP calls over Internet

Why pay unnecessarily for overseas calls when you can make it for free! Tomahawk Desktop includes a SIP-based softphone with a voice quality comparable to normal phones, just plug in a headset with a microphone and start calling your buddies for any long without costing a single penny more regardless of what operating system he/she is running.

FTP File Transfer

File transfers between Tomahawk Desktop and other computers is a snap with Tomahawk Desktop which includes both a FTP client as well as a FTP server. That is, you can download files as well as you can make files available for others to download.

Website Authoring

You don't have to buy additional software to develop your website. The included software NVU is a complete Website Authoring System similar to FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

Calendar and Organizing

Organize your schedules, reminders, etc. with the included excellent application KOrganizer.

Wireless Internet Access

Tomahawk Desktop comes with software and drivers for wireless Internet access.

Bluetooth Access

Download photos to your computer or transfer audio files to your mobile phone using Bluetooth is a snap with Tomahawk Desktop.

Firewire Access

Tomahawk Desktop supports Firewire so that you can connect your video camera to your computer and transfer DV files.

Digital Camera Access

You don't need drivers or any other applications from your camera vendor to connect your digital camera to a computer running Tomahawk Desktop. It's just plug and play!

Digital Photo Editing and Retouching

Included software Gimp is a photo editing application similar to the Adobe Photoshop.

Design 3D Graphics

Tomahawk Desktop includes a 3D graphic design and rendering software named Blender. You can create professional grade 3D images for advertisements, etc., click here see samples.

Photo Management

The digiKam is included to manage your photos and organize them into albums.

Thumbdrive Access

Thumbdrive access is plug and play. You don't need any software or drivers to access your thumbdrive.

Card Access

Card access is also plug and play. You don't need any software or drivers to access your CF, SM, SD/MMC and MS, etc., cards.

Zeroconf

Zeroconf is a technology to access network resources such as computers, printers, etc. without knowing their IP addresses. For example, to access the web server running on the computer named blacktower, just type blacktower.local on your browser. To download files from Andrew's laptop, just type andrew.local on your FTP client. For this, we have included the Apple's open source software mDNSResponder, which is trade named as Bonjour.

Digital Radios

There are hundreds of CD quality digital radio stations available on the Internet covering all genre. AmaroK and Xmms is included to enjoy them.

Ogg/FLAC audio files Create and Play

Tomahawk Desktop natively supports creating Ogg and FLAC audio files from CDs. It's just drag and drop from CD to a folder, it converts automatically!

AmaroK, Xmms and Xine are included to play them. The amaroK is a novel music player, you can see lyrics while listening.

JuK is wonderful way to music. That is, play songs by searching them in your computer. You like to listen all songs by a particular singer, just search his name in juK or you feel like listen to Rock, just search rock in juK, etc.

Tomahawk Desktop can play a plethora of different music formats from simple CD, Wave, Ogg upto FLAC. FLAC is a lossless audio codec to record high-definition music. Lossless means that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. MP3 is lossy audio codec, that is, when compressing audio in creating MP3, audio Fidelity is lost by compromising quality to accomodate smaller file size.

Ipod/Audio Player Access

No iTunes for Linux, no problem, Tomahawk Desktop supports direct connectivity to iPod and other Audio palyers. Transfer your audio files to iPod or any other Audio player is a snap with Tomahawk Desktop.

Movie Play

You can play compressed as well as raw video including their High-Definition counterparts such as Theora, Snow, Motion JPEG, YUV4MPEG2, etc. with Tomahawk Desktop.

Xine, Mplayer and VideoLAN players are included for your pleasure.

Movie Editing

Connect your video camera either to USB or Firewire port and transfer your shooting. The Kino video editing application is included with Tomahawk Desktop.

DVD/CD Burning

Want to burn your computer backup to a DVD? want to distribute your documentary in CD or DVD? burn all your songs to CD or DVD? we have included a one stop shop in Tomahawk Desktop, K3b, the Kreator.

Audio/Video Streaming

Listen to my Radio staion, today I'm playing my new Rock CD. Like to see my new DVD, tonite, come to myname.local. Do you like to stream audio/video? The Tomahawk Desktop is the answer. All software necessary to stream audio or video over a network are included in Tomahawk Desktop.

Serve Web Pages

Turn your laptop into to a web server! Show what time you operate your personal Internel radio station. How about your personal TV station schedules? Your photo album. If you are a teacher, you can offer your tutorials for students to either browse or download. Industry leading Apache web server is included in Tomahawk Desktop.

Internet Chat

Kopete is the instant messenger included in Tomahawk Desktop supporting AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, IRC, Gadu-Gadu, Novell GroupWise Messenger, and more. It is a multi-protocol system suitable for personal and enterprise use.

P2P File Downloads

Bittorrent and Gnutella are the peer-to-peer file download software included into Tomahawk Desktop.

Remote Login and Serviceability

Under the permission of the user, service personnel can log in to a computer running Tomahawk Desktop remotely to configure or repair, so that, in most cases you don't have to bring your computer to a service center.
